Our Coalfield School Story

This is my first post of the Coalfield School Story in a few weeks. I have enjoyed seeing our staff sharing, almost daily, the great things happening at our school.  They have done a phenomenal job telling our Story.  They are collecting photos and writing the story so wonderfully.  I will continue to share sparingly as well, but it makes me happy to see our Story being  written and illustrated by so many talented folks in our building who, too, are witnesses to The Coalfield School Story.
I want to brag on our students and their parents for continuing to make a strong statement with attendance.  This past week we had single digit absences in both middle school and high school. One day we only had 2 students absent in high school and 4 students absent in middle school.
We also had days with single digit absences in elementary.  Thank you students and parents for making this a priority.
Ms. Karen Flowers Watson continues to have students in SDC Statistics who are locked in and finishing the entire course.  I think she has had 5 or 6 students complete the semester long course in less than a 9 weeks. This is very impressive for this difficult course!
Ms. Shelia and I both have observed some very good instruction and lessons by Coalfield School teachers.  We have been impressed by our teacher’s lessons and student engagement in these classrooms.
We have observed learning occurring through student-to-student discussions and student-teacher interactions.
We have had conferences with teachers about common formative assessments about student’s learning and misconceptions.  Teachers use this information to develop a plan to address the standards that were most misunderstood by students on the assessment.
The construction work has begun on our STEM lab. The rain last week shut it down after the footers were dug, but it is only a matter of time before our students will have a new space for project-based learning.  We hope to fill this facility with a wood working shop, virtual equipment and much more that will allow students to safely learn skills and about trades that they may find interesting.
We hired Mr. Kevin Prosser to teach music and band.  Mr. Prosser has a Masters degree in K-5 education, a bachelors degree in Music Performance Band and Choral, and a degree in instrument repair.  Please welcome him to the Jacket Nation.
We are so excited to have Mr. Paul Brown back and to know that he is doing well .
Ms. Sydney Hensley will fill the Special Education Assistant position we had open.  We are currently interviewing to fill the interim position she previously occupied.

Please keep our school, staff, and students in your prayers daily.  Pray specifically for God to fill our SPED teacher position that is currently open.  This is a tough position to fill and almost impossible to do so in the middle of a school year, but nothing is impossible for our God.  Have a strong day!
