Our Coalfield School Story-Week of August 18th

The Coalfield School Story continued this week with some strong performances on th field/court and in the classroom.  Ms. Karen Flowers Watson  shared with me that students are much more engaged and are on great pace in completing their modules for State Dual Credit Statistics.  Ms. Sara Foust’s Creative Writing students finished authoring their books and then went to the elementary classrooms to read them to our younger students.
Our Lady Jackets volleyball team collected two impressive wins this week over Greenback and Harriman . Our CMS football team won a tough game on the road against Huntsville.  Our CHS football team began their season against perennial powerhouse Gordonsville. It was a very physical, hard fought game until the weather shut it down. The game resulted in a no contest ruling due to being stopped in the 3rd quarter.
We conducted a fire drill and a soft lockdown drill this week.  Roane State Community College visited with our middle college students this week to discuss their upcoming virtual learning class.
We had so many volunteers who put in so many hours to support our students this week.  Thank you to all the folks who are helping our home coming queens. The money they raise will go directly to support our students in academics, athletics, and Beta Club trips.
Also, a huge thank you to all the folks who pitched in to get things ready for our first home football game of the year. It is a huge production to host a high school football game and I am thankful for the people who help get the facilities ready.
Please continue to pray for our students, staff, and their families.
I hope everyone has a strong week!
