Our Coalfield School Story-Week of March 17th

Our Coalfield School Story continued this week with many strong characteristics of a strong school community.  I enjoyed my time visiting classrooms this week.  Ms. Susa Bates and Granny Susan Long have had our littles in PreK working on a STEM project to build leprechaun traps. Many of our littles presented their finished product to me explaining how they hoped to catch the leprechaun.
Ms. Jennifer Basler and her student teacher Ms. Lauren also were engaging our littles in learning. Friday was Ms. Lauren’s last day with us and our Kindergarten students were adding their finger prints to her graduate cap. Ms. Lauren told them this meant they would graduate with her.  We will miss having Ms. Lauren at our school.
Mr. Zack Stewart had his science students engaged in an experiment making slime.
Ms. Paula Jones Melhorn had a really cool lesson that engaged students in an “Eye Spy Game” that required students to use what they had learned about the characteristics of different 3D shapes to find objects in the room.
Coach Jones STEM students are building rockets that they will launch this week.
We held a “Break Dress Code” day that encouraged students to donate an item of clothing for a clothing drive in our community.  Students filled 4 big boxes and a couple of large bags.
We also took some time during high school break to recognize the Queen of Coalfield, Ms. Kela for World Down Syndrome Day. Two of our student-athletes, Senior Addison Armes and Freshman Madison Jackson, did a fantastic job leading this heartwarming event.
Our spring sports teams had a strong week collecting several wins.  Please see screenshots for details.
We had several classes who received awards from Ms. Carmen onJackson Hines’ Fridays name that tune game.
We appreciate the continued support of our community and surrounding businesses that help make it possible for our students to do what they love.
Please continue to pray for our school, staff, and students.
