Our Coalfield School Story continued this week with high school students completing EOC state testing. Thank you to Mrs. Susanne Hitchcock Pemberton, Mrs. Tiffany Deanne Thompson, and staff for working hard to organize and proctor these exams for our students. Students were very courteous in the hallways while testing took place.
Our middle school STEM students culminated their CO2 dragster unit with a race day. Students entered their final product in the tournament style race. Each group worked to design the most aerodynamic car while learning to think about and apply the F=MA formula. Coach Jones purchased a new track for this year’s race using Innovative Schools Model (ISM) funds. Each group raced their car until elimination. The last car standing won. Kenton Jackson and Ben Neeley were the overall winners.
Mrs. Dee Dee Harrison Wallace and Mrs. Pamela Fears Lay worked hard to get TNReady top achieving student names on the banners for middle school and elementary. They will also be working to add high school top achieving students to the high school banner.
Mr. David C Snodgrass and his band students had their annual Christmas band concert this week. These young people are working hard to revitalize our school band and are doing a fantastic job. Thank you to everyone who came out to support them in their efforts.
Our school sign was brought back to life this week. Thank you to all our homecoming queens, their families, and all who supported them as they raised enough funds to make this happen. It was truly a One-Heartbeat effort by many. We are learning to use the high tech software and will do our best to get weekly schedules of events posted on the sign in a manner that is clearly visible to all who pass by our school.
Thank you to Coach Josh Wright and the Lady Jackets for providing lunch for and recognizing the 2005 state tournament Lady Jacket team this week. They also fed our evening custodial staff who work hard to make sure the gym is clean for practices and games.
Our CHS and CMS basketball teams were in action this week. CHS ladies had big wins over Jellico and Oneida. The CHS boys recorded a nice win over York. The CMS boys continued to win with wins over Rockwood and Harriman.
Miss Tennessee Miss Tennessee Volunteer, Hannah McKay and one of our own former student-athletes, Kelsi Walters, graciously visited our school to discuss compassion and kindness with some of elementary students. Thank you for taking the time to pour into students.
Volunteer Coach Jeremy Adcock was One-Heartbeat at one of the basketball games this week as he saved the custodial staff and fans from a sticky mess in the bleachers. (See photo)Thank you, Coach.
We had three student-athletes Luke Treece, Mason Smith, and Eli Justice were invited to play in the Rivalry Thursday All Star Game at Maryville High School. We are super proud of these young people and their accomplishments.
Cooper Basler made a kick heard around the state at halftime of the Rivalry All Star game. Cooper, wearing Crocs, kicked a field goal on television during the halftime ceremonies. It would have been good from at least an additional ten yards. Coooooop!
Please continue to remember our staff, students, and school in your prayers as we close out this first semester.
