Our Coalfield School Story-Week of December 2nd

Our Coalfield School Story continued with a lot of positive things happening.  We recognized our teachers of the year for each grade level.  Mrs Susan Bates, Mr. Matt Jones, and Ms. Karen Flowers Watson were all recognized and celebrated this year’s award.  We also recognized our support staff of the year Mrs. Cathy Bird. We are blessed to have so many great teachers and staff members at our school.
We had our annual lighting of the school Christmas tree.  Thank you to Mr. David C Snodgrass for leading this event.  Our entire student body and faculty gathered around the tree for a short event. Students and staff sang Christmas songs and enjoyed the festivities.  Our tree is decorated with ornaments that our students created.
We also had PTO members who ran a Holiday Gift shop this week for students to shop for family Christmas presents.
Mrs. Medema’s Intro to Business class organized and managed a Christmas Market that allowed students to come down at different times to shop for Christmas gifts for family and friends.
We also had some guest speakers this week pertaining specifically to social and emotional learning.  Ms. Madilyn Lands, from the Roane County Health Department, came to teach our middle school SEL class about healthy eating habits.  Ethan, with Choices Matter, came to share hiTiffany Deanne Thompsont how our choices affect more than ourselves. He shared this with our 6th -12th grade students.
Mrs. Tiffany Deanne Thompson created a wall of honor celebrating many of our high school students academic achievements.  These ranged from 21 or above ACT scores, Industry Certifications from CTE, Ready Graduates, and much more.
In sports, several of our high school football players received honors. Some received superlatives and where named to the All Region and All Academic Teams. (See pictures)
Our CMS and CHS basketball teams had games this week.  Each team picked up some nice wins with yheir efforts on the court. Thank you to our cheerleaders for their routines and encouragement for our teams.
Our gym got some new safety pads mounted on the walls behind each goal.  I’m thankful for our coaches for the time and energy they give to our student-athletes.
Thank you to our evening custodial staff for assembling new chairs for our business class. Also, for their efforts to get the gym, locker rooms, and restrooms clean and ready for our games on top of keeping our entire school clean for staff and students. These folks do a fantastic job.
Please continue to keep our students, staff, and school in your daily prayers.
