The Coalfield School Story continued with a spotlight on academics and athletics this week. Our high school Beta Club students headed to Nashville to compete in the state competitions. Our middle school Beta Club students and chaperones leave today for Nashville. Every student will compete in one of the state competitions. These students and their teachers/chaperones have worked really hard to get ready for these competitions. I’m excited to see how they finish. We are so proud of these young people who step out of their comfort zones in order to be great. Thank you to Ms. Jennifer Tyl and Ms. Kristi Jackson for sponsoring our Beta Clubs.
Our basketball season has started for CHS ladies and our middle school teams. Each team had some nice wins this past week. We are excited to see these student athletes compete for a championship this season.
One Heartbeat Eats, a business started by our Intro to Business Students, opened for business this week. They were taking orders and delivering food to staff and students at lunch. There is no better instruction than real world experience. I absolutely love what Ms. Medema is doing for her students.
The part of our Story which has received the biggest spotlight this week, well deserved by the way, is our CHS Football Team’s dramatic win over a very good Oliver Springs football team. I am so happy for our coaches, our players, our cheerleaders, our band, and our community. These young people have a spotlight on them at all times in our community. That spotlight can produce criticism and it can also result in praise. I’m proud of how our student athletes represented our school on Friday Night. They never quit and they were victorious giving their community a sense of happiness and another opportunity to support them in their quest for a State Championship.
Because of the spotlight that is persistently and relentlessly shining on these young people, contrary to what some people may say, our student athletes at Coalfield are held to the same standard, if not a higher standard, than other students. This means, if they do not meet expectations, they KNOW they will answer to Admin, the Graduation Coach, their coaches, and their teammates. I say all this to emphasize how hard it is to be a student athlete at Coalfield and how happy it makes me to see these young people and our coaches shining in the spotlight. It’s not easy to be a student athlete at Coalfield School because you have so many eyes on you holding you accountable, but nights like Friday night make it worth the extra pressure. Go Jackets!
Please continue to pray for our school, students, and staff. Thank you 🙏.
