Our Coalfield School story continued this past week with some challenges and some successes. As usual, we focus on the good and face the challenges.
We celebrated and honored our Veterans on Veteran’s Day. One of our former students, United States Marine Hayden Hicks, made the drive home to be with us for the celebration. Thank you to Mr. David C Snodgrass organizing this event and Mr Hixson for Mcing the event.
One of our seniors, Mr. Luke Treece, signed his letter of intent on National Signing Day to play Baseball for Lee University. Congratulations to this fine young man. Luke will do great things at the next level.
Our middle school STEM students continued working on their dragsters to get ready for race day. They also worked to install the new State Baseball Championship sign. Coach Jones does a great job keeping his students engaged in hands-on-activities.
Ms. Sheila Harvey and I had the privilege to observe several classrooms this week. I visited Ms. Hannah Medema’s Intro to Business class. Students presented their business ideas to a representative from Junior Achievement in hopes of receiving funding for their business. These young people did a phenomenal job! One business is A Christmas Market at school and the other was a food service business called One Heartbeat Eats. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing students totally engaged in real world learning activities.
Morgan Services, owned by Jesus Morales, heard of a need in our school and graciously volunteered funds and his crew to help. The fire marshal told us we had to remove our decorative ceiling tiles in the hallway. We had a lot of them to replace because we have, for several years, allowed our graduates to decorate a tile which they purchase themselves. Mr. Morales stepped in and bought all new tiles and had his crew replace each decorative tile with a new one. There were 244 tiles. We are so thankful for his generosity.
Katrina Moore and Gerald graciously sponsored the meal to feed our football team and the 20 man television crew last Thursday. We are truly thankful for their generosity and support to our school.
Some of Sophomore and Junior students went to Roane State Community College Friday to learn about programs of studies available to them. Thank you to Ms. Erin Walls Miller and Ms. Tiffany Deanne Thompson for organizing and chaperoning this event.
Our CHS Football team beat Harriman to advance to the 3rd round of the playoffs. They will play Oliver Springs on Friday for chance to advance to the Semi Final round of the state playoffs.
Please continue to pray for our school, our students, and our staff.
