Our Coalfield School Story-Week of October 14

Our Coalfield School story continued this week after a much needed break.  Our middle school STEM students prepped and painted the posts of the new “1998 Baseball State Championship” sign.  Our old sign is deteriorated and needed to be replaced. Thanks to everyone in the community who helped our homecoming queens raise money, we are finally able to move forward with getting a new school sign.  Hopefully we can make this happen this a reality before Christmas break.
Ms. Shelia Harvey and I were blessed with the opportunity to observe several lessons this past week.  These unannounced observations allow us to see an authentic representation of classrooms.  Observing our teachers and students during an instruction/learning environment is one of my favorite things to do as an administrator.
Ms. Shelia also began sprucing up our entry ways with mums donated in memory or in honor of a loved one.
Our juniors and seniors visited Tn Tech this week.  Thank you to Coalfield School graduates Dr. Jeremy Wendt and Dr. Julie Wendt Baker for organizing a tour of the campus for our students.
Our students enjoyed some feel good music to celebrate it being Friday this week as they came through the bag screening and metal detector process.
All Corps students earned lunch in the classroom as their chosen reward and they got to bring a friend.  Our All Corps program in elementary has proven to be successful to help students improve in achievement in reading and math.  Ms. Dee Dee Harrison Wallace and Ms. Jessica Beck Stubbs do an excellent job with this program. This was Mrs. Jessica Stubbs last week with us as she pursues a job with her degree at ORNL. We will truly miss Ms. Jessica in All Corps.  However, she will continue to contribute to our school as the high school volleyball head coach and has expressed interest in continuing to help out with homecoming activities and a potential booster club.  Thank you Ms. Jessica for pouring into our students.
Ms. Dee Dee is also working with middle school teachers and aides to implement the successful All Corps program for middle school students.  Our school board blessed us with the opportunity to get another aide position in middle school, due to the data results in elementary AllCorps, to help with this process. With this new position, we were fortunate to get Ms. Andrea Crane back to work with our students.
Our sports teams did not play this week but were working hard to prepare for the upcoming games this coming week.  CMS will play Oliver Springs this Tuesday for opportunity to advance and play for another gold ball.  Our CHS football team prepared for the big game this coming Thursday against Oliver Springs. OS is ranked #2 in the state and we are ranked #3. The game will be televised as the Thursday night Rivalry game.  It will be played at Oliver Springs. Please come out and support our student-athletes as they compete for another championship.
Please continue to pray continuously for our students, staff, and school.
