Our Coalfield School Story-Week of August 26th

Our Coalfield School Story continued this week with some challenges and many One-Heartbeat moments.  We will continue to focus on our One-Heartbeat mission and do our best to learn from any challenges we face.  Mr. Mike Smith’s Ecology class was outside doing tree identification.  Our middle school STEM students and Coach Jones worked hard to modify and assemble the new benches for our football stadium.  These benches will provide additional seating and serve as a barrier to prevent falls from the dropoff created by the concrete pad that was poured for the bleachers. Our middle school and high school Beta Clubs received word this week that they earned School of Merit honors.  Congratulations to them and their sponsors for this nice recognition. I was able to drop in most classrooms this week.  It encourages me to see our teachers, from elementary to high school, interact with our students and to see our students engaged in learning. I am truly blessed to be surrounded by such a great staff and I love them and all my students…our students have done so great with the new security protocols.  I get to interact with them in a fun, positive way each morning as they come through the metal detectors. We truly have some wonderful kids and young adults at our school and it is a blessing to have the opportunity of getting to know each one of them better each day.
Ms.  Carol P Jackson continues to serve our students in cool ways from the cafeteria.  She and Ms. Anita had decaf, iced coffee for our middle school and high school students in the mornings.
A special thank you to Ted Mckinney as he continues to give back to our school.  He had his crew install a fence on the ramps leading up to our new bleachers.  We appreciate all Ted has done and continues to do for our school. Thank you to Mr. Levi McDaniel for installing a new air conditioner in our concession stand this week.  Levi gave up his time to come down Friday afternoon and install the air conditioner before our first home game. Our multi-talented school secretary, Ms. Tabitha Jones-Davis , helped with the installation as well.  Our SRO, Mr. D Michael Kruggel, had the kids entertained as he welcomed them and directed traffic with huge Mickey Mouse hands. Later, at the pep rally, Tray Lively got the students energized with those hands and shoes.  CMS Football had another dominant win as they defeated Sunbright on Thursday.  CHS football had a great win over a very tough Oneida squad on Friday night. Our CHS ladies dominated Oliver Springs in straight sets this week on the volleyball court.  Our CMS ladies continued to get better in their first season of volleyball as they came up short to North Middle and Philidelphia this week.  Ms. Cathy Bird continued to capture memories for our students and their families during these events. Thank you to all our student-athletes, the coaches, and the volunteers for giving so much of your time to represent our school. Please continue to pray for our students and our staff.
