Our Coalfield School Story-Week of August 19

Our Coalfield School Story continued this week as our school rallied together to grieve the loss of one of our littles.  Thank you to our district office, the counselors from Ridgeview, and our school guidance Counselor Ms. Tiffany Deanne Thompson for the support they provided our staff and students during this time.  Also, thank you to the other school families in our district for their support during this time. On behalf of Coalfield School, we appreciate your thoughtfulness and kindness during this time.
This week, we used our new gym floor as our CMS and CHS volleyball girls took the floor for their home openers. Our CMS ladies fell a little short in their match with Norris.  Our CHS ladies recorded a win over Oakdale in their first game of the season.
Our new football bleachers got used for the first time as our CMS football team had an impressive win in their home opener over Huntsville 34-0.  Our CHS football team traveled to Wartburg and notched a huge win over the Bulldogs 60-7. Needless to say, it was a busy week for our student-athletes and staff.  Thank you to our cheerleaders and band for organizing our first pep rally of the year.
The one-heartbeat spirit was alive and well in our school this past week as we had some staff out with illness.  Several students and staff stepped up, without being asked, to help with custodial, lunchroom, and other duties. Our students, staff, and community also came together to win the annual food drive.  We were able to accumulate over 13000 pts for cans and $2700 to send to the Storehouse Ministry to help those in need. Another One-heartbeat moment I would like to recognize is one of our middle school students who gave another student money to get a snow cone when Snowbiz came to our school. Carson Lively saw another student upset that he did not have money to get a snow cone and discreetly gave him his.  Some of our staff found out about this kind act and let me know.  Although it was not his intention, Karsen was recognized for his one-heartbeat spirit.
I was able to get into several classrooms over the past couple of weeks and observe our awesome teachers and students during their instruction and learning time. I love that our teachers go the extra mile to plan fun experiences for our students to learn the state standards.
On another note concerning academics, Ms. Tiffany Thompson worked to put together this information.  We have 40 total juniors and seniors enrolled in classes with Roane State Community College.  These students are taking over a combined 175 credit hours of college coursework.  We have 2 sophomores taking 12 TCAT dual enrollment hours, 12 Juniors taking 54 TCAT dual enrollment hours, and 8 seniors taking 59 TCAT dual enrollment hours. Considering we only have about 120 total students who are sophomores, juniors, or seniors this is great news. It is a huge credit to our Counselor, Ms. Tiffany Thompson, and our Graduation Coach, Ms.  Carmen Jackson Hines.  These ladies put in a lot of time with our students to help them with their schedules. It’s also a huge credit to our students for their willingness to raise the bar for themselves.
Please continue to pray for our staff and students
