Our Coalfield School Story-Week of July 29

Our Coalfield School story 2024-2025 edition started this past week.  We hope to build on last year’s success.  We got to reunite with our students for a half day on Thursday. It’s always great to have the energy they bring back to the building.  Our staff was busy completing inservice and working to getting everything ready for our students’ return.  I can’t say enough about our fantastic custodians. We finally have a fully staffed crew and they are phenomenal.  Show them some One-Heartbeat love when you see them. These folks have worked hard all summer cleaning the building, painting, and etc.  This past week they worked with teachers to help move heavy items in place for classrooms.
Ms. Vicki Jackson, Mona Justice, and the women’s ministry of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church served our staff a meal 2 times.  Once with breakfast at the school and then a lunch at their church.  Pastor Corey Jones, of  Middle Creek Baptist Church, organized a prayer walk of our school building. Youth Pastor Aaron Leslie, lollipop extraordinaire Ms.  Misty Garrett Kring, myself, and Director of Schools Mr. Jamie Pemberton joined Pastor Corey to lift up our students and staff this school year.  If you would like to join in corporate prayer for our school with us each day, set an alarm for 8:30 AM. We would love to have as many as possible calling on the Creator of the universe in unison each day for our school.
Ms. Sheila Walls did a wonderful job preparing a meal for our staff for open house. She went on her day off and picked pizza up, made a salad with all the fixings, and got drinks.  Ms. Whitney Jackson prepared a welcoming display for our students that promotes positive energy. Our lady jackets have a really nice, updated locker room. New wooden lockers and a new, decorative floor.  A big thanks to Coach Josh Wright for leading this project for our young ladies.  Ms. Tiffany Walls had a good vibes display on the wall of her classroom that promotes positive energy. Coach Jones was busy 3D printing name tags for lockers of students in his home room.  They look fantastic.
Mr. Zach Stewart, his brother Dylan Stewart, Coach Austin Swint (AKA The Spank), and our student Walker Russell (AKA The Walk) wrestled at our school allowing for a fundraising opportunity for our lady jackets locker room updates.
Ms. Melissa Morales, our new Communities in Schools representative, created a display for our hallway encouraging characteristics associated with our mission and vision.
Our mission is to create a “One-Heartbeat” environment where everyone feels included, loved, and supported.  Our vision is to be a strong school.
To conclude this first post of the new school year, I want to give a shout out to our new Coalfield School Guidance counselor.  Ms. Tiffany Thompson has literally worked night and day to support our students and staff. Please show her some One-Heartbeat support and love when you see her.  The job of a PreK-12th grade guidance counselor is one not for the faint of heart.  Thank you, Ms. Tiffany.  You are a blessing!
