Our Coalfield School Story-Week of May 6

Our Coalfield School story continued to be busy this week.  As we have all year long, we will face our challenges and continue to focus on the positives.  This week was teacher appreciation week.  A special thank you to Ms. Sheila Walls, Kevin Walls,  Mt. Carmel Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and others who organized gifts for our staff.  It was much appreciated and we truly enjoyed all the good food.
Coach Jones and his STEM students organized a silent auction of the works they completed this semester in class.  It was a real success raising a lot of money the will be donated to Izzy Blalock and her family.  We were thrilled to have Izzy back with us this week.  She hung out with her friends and played on the playground with them.  God is so good!
Ms. Jenice Pearson and Mr. David Hixson were recognized at the School Board meeting this week for their district teacher of the year selection for their respective grade band.
Ms. Jessica Lowe and her class had some fun science activities dissecting owl pellets.
Mr. Mike Smith and his Biology students disected frogs this week.
Ms.   Dee Dee Harrison Wallace,  Jessica Beck Jessica Beck Stubbs, and Pamela Fears Lay celebrated a great year of hard work with their All Corp students with games and treats.   These ladies also got the names on our high school, academic top achievers banner.
Petros-Joyner 8th graders visited our school this week.  Thank you to our student ambassadors Luke Treece, Levi Heidel, Caroline Foster, and Halle Wilson for giving them a tour and spending time with them.
We also honored Ms.  Hillary Swint Freytag for school nurse appreciation day.  We appreciate nurse Hillary and all she does to treat our students and staff and help keep them healthy.
You may have noticed our football bleachers demolishing started and finished this week.  Next will be the concrete pouring phase of the new bleachers project.
We also finalized the new layout of the high school gym floor.   This project will start at the first of August.  We also met via zoom meeting with the architects of our new STEM lab that will be funded with money from the Innovative Scools Model grant.  The STEM lab will be built between the middle school wing and the outdoor pavilion.  We are excited about all that is happening for our students.
We hosted another district tournament this week.  This was our third district tournament in two weeks that we hosted.  I want to thank our staff and the many community volunteers who worked so hard to make this happen for the kids.
Our spring sports seasons came to an end this week for our teams.  Thank you to all the coaches, student athletes, staff, and volunteers who gave of their time so that our student-athletes could do what they do.  A special thank you to Ms. Cathy Bird for capturing so many memories for students and their families with her camera.
Please continue to pray for our students, staff, and their families
